What are Plankton and what would happen if they disappear?
Plankton are microscopic organisms, smaller than the size of a human hair, that provide food to all marine species. It is what creates balance of the ecosystem. Plankton are responsible for creating 50% of the oxygen in the atmosphere.
So what if they disappeared?? If Plankton disappeared, we’ll notice that marine animals are perishing; dolphins, sharks, and whales will slowly go extinct from starvation! Even oxygen levels will drop and carbon levels will increase in the air.
Since the 1950s, 40% of Plankton numbers have dropped. This is already a huge issue. We must preserve the sea to be able to breathe.
