Ocean Pollution Kills Marine Life & Humans
OCEAN WASTE HARMS HUMANS TOO!
Ocean Pollution is not only killing marine life but it is also harmful to humans. Here are 4 FACTS you need to know about the effect of ocean pollution on mankind.
1. 70% of the oxygen we breathe is produced by marine plants, and CO2 emissions produced by humans are not only in the air, but also absorbed by the ocean.
2. Chemicals such as pesticides, mercury, lead, and nitrates are thrown in the ocean causing kidney damage, reproductive problems, hormonal problems, and nervous system damage.
3. Bacteria turns mercury into a toxic compound (methyl-mercury) which goes up our food chain causing fetal diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease.
4. 13% of oil enters the ocean each year from oil spills. Oil spills contain toxic waste such as petroleum, pesticides, fertilizers, and animal waste; all of which are difficult to dispose from the ocean.
The ocean provides us life. Respect the ocean and keep it clean for us and for many generations to come.
